Amplification of Vacuum Fluctuations in String Cosmology Backgrounds

چکیده

Inflationary string cosmology backgrounds can amplify perturbations in a more efficient way than conventional inflationary backgrounds, because the perturbation amplitude may grow instead of being constant outside the horizon. If not gauged away, the growing mode can limit the range of validity of a linearized description of perturbations. Even in the restricted linear range, however, this enhanced amplification may lead to phenomenological consequences unexpected in the context of the standard inflationary scenario. In particular, the production of a relic graviton background strong enough to be detected in future by LIGO, and/or the generation of a stochastic electromagnetic background strong enough to seed the cosmic magnetic fields and to be responsible for the observed large scale anisotropy. * Talk given at the “3rd Colloque Cosmologie” (Observatoire de Paris, 7-9 June 1995). Primordial magnetic fields from string cosmology.

Sufficiently large seeds for generating the observed (inter)galactic magnetic fields emerge naturally in string cosmology from the amplification of electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations due to a dynamical dilaton background. The success of the mechanism depends crucially on two features of the so-called pre-big-bang scenario, an early epoch of dilaton-driven inflation at very small coupling, and ...

Electromagnetic origin of the CMB anisotropy in string cosmology.

In the inflationary scenarios suggested by string theory, the vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field can be amplified by the time-evolution of the dilaton background, and can grow large enough to explain both the origin of the cosmic magnetic fields and of the observed CMB anisotropy. The normalization of the perturbation spectrum is fixed, and implies a relation between the perturbat...

Production of fermions in models of string cosmology

Production of spin 1/2 fermions and gravitinos by the standard mechanism of amplification of quantum fluctuations during the dilatondriven inflation phase in models of string cosmology is highly suppressed. Constraints on string cosmology models from gravitational production of gravitinos, contrary to expectations, are similar to constraints on other models.

Pre-Big Bang Cosmology and Quantum Fluctuations

In the framework of string theory, the Pre-Big Bang scenario [1,2] provides an alternative to the standard inflationary paradigm. In the Pre-Big Bang model 1 the inflationary solutions, driven by the kinetic energy of the dilaton, emerge naturally via the duality symmetries of string theory. It has, however, been argued [3] that, even though the two classical moduli of the open (K = −1), homoge...

Dark Matter Axions in Models of String Cosmology

Axions are produced during a period of dilaton-driven inflation by amplification of quantum fluctuations. We show that for some range of string cosmology parameters and some range of axion masses, primordial axions may constitute a large fraction of the present energy density in the universe in the form of cold dark matter. Due to the periodic nature of the axion potential energy density fluctu...
